Website & server down?

manhattanjeff

I haven’t been able to send or receive any GV text messages through GVmax since yesterday morning (Tuesday). I also can’t log onto the GVmax website.

Is the server down? Is anyone else having similar problems?

Thanks a lot,

Jeff

server got taken over by hackers. Shut it down until I figure out what
happened.
Does not look like they were after my data, instead using the computer
for port scanning etc.. as part of a bot net.

Will have to decide if I want to bring GVMax up or call it a day.

Really sorry to hear about the hacking. I realize it must be very discouraging, but please don't give up on this site. I'm sure I'm not the only user who depends on it for much of my daily communication. Also if money is a factor, there are many of us who would gladly donate to keep the site running. Thanks for the excellent work. ... Jeff

Yikes, that's disheartening.

If GVMax goes down there will be few reasons for me to continue using Google Voice at all. I really enjoy the SMS capabilities that come with GVMax

That's exactly how I feel. There is no decent desktop SMS/IM software compatible with Google Voice without using GVMax. And most of the other SMS apps (other than GV) require that both "friends" use the same app to chat.

Re: Website & server down?

I've tried it on my Nexus 5 and in Chrome for Windows. The problem with Hangouts is that you can only chat with other Google+ members, as far as I can tell. I need to be able to SMS/chat with people from my PC who are not necessarily friends, and have them be able to dial my phone number, or send an SMS, without asking them to join Google+ or use the Hangouts app.

There have been rumors that Google plans to incorporate Google Voice into Hangouts, but this has not happened. I think that Google clearly wants to switch to a model where everyone has to join Google+ to use chat or voice services. Right now anyone who has a Google account can sign up for GVoice, and either call or SMS other people who do not have any Google products or apps. GVoice is a direct connection from my PC to the cell phone of the person I call -- but only if I use GVMax. Hangouts does not have that capability, unfortunately.

Thanks a lot for suggesting it though....

This has been a great program!  If I'm using it from Gmail, should I just disable the forwarding until it is fixed?

Yep disabling the gmail filter is all you need to do

Okay, I did.  But I'm getting emails attached to the Google Voice text emails that say:

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification

THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE.

Delivery to the following recipient has been delayed:

     .......................@my.gvmax.com

Message will be retried for 2 more day(s)

They keep on arriving even after deleting them.  What should I do?

Yea I'm getting spammed to crap with that stuff too. You need to disable the filters, or disable your texts from going to your email (through your google voice settings) to stop this. It will still occur for several days after you disable it though...

Remove the gmail filter. After a day or two it will stop. Also in google voice turn off the sending of SMS to your email.
